Philip Elman
Elman [1917-1999], a clerk and protege of Felix Frankfurter, was an attorney in the solicitor general’s office who played a decisive role in the Brown v. Board of Education decision. Working closely with Frankfurter, he added the famous proviso that schools be desegregated “with all deliberate speed.”
