his short lifetime Paul Leicester Ford [1865-1902] was
a historian and historical novelist as well as a noted
and prolific bibliographer of Americana and editor of
Autobiography of Thomas Jefferson, 1743-1790. He
was fatally shot by his brother Malcolm W., who then shot
and killed himself. Their eldest brother, Worthington
Chauncey Ford (see 217.) was head of the Division
of Manuscripts at the Library of Congress and later director
of research and publication at the Massachusetts Historical
