Educated at Dartmouth and Yale, Goodrich, notes Cohen, "had several different occupations, in 1784 he became a member of the County Medical Society; in 1786 and for a few years thereafter, he ran a drug store; later he kept an inn and served as a constable; and by 1793 he had become a lawyer."
