Indeed, Blackstone recommends it in the section on evidence in the Commentaries for a fuller treatment of the subject. The first American edition was published in 1788. The 1805 Philadelphia edition is drawn from a three-volume work. The two omitted volumes contain additional material by Capel Lofft. Holdsworth, Sources and Literature of English Law 120.
