New. $95. * Written late in life by the "Father of American History," this definitive work traces the formation of the federal constitution from its origin to the inauguration of Washington. While reflective of Bancroft's romantic, nationalistic view of the American founding, the work remains an invaluable resource for modern scholars due to its extensive appendices. Bancroft utilized his immense diplomatic and political influence to gather rare, private correspondence and public papers from early American statesmen, printing many of these foundational Constitutional Convention documents here for the first time.
