Professor of Law at the University of Halle and an authority on civil law, Ludovici was the first jurist to write a legal treatise in German. A prolific author, he published works on a wide variety of legal topics. His work is notable for its clarity, well-crafted syntheses and elegant prose style. The first title is a comprehensive treatise on the laws and legal procedure relating to bills of exchange. The second title deals with ecclesiastical law and church discipline. Both have notes by Schlitte, a Privy Counselor to the Emperor of Prussia. Stintzing/Landsberg, Geschichte der Deutschen Rechtswissenschaft III/1:136.
