Light rubbing to extremities, corners bumped, a few minor scuffs and stains to boards. Title printed in red and black. Woodcut head-pieces, tail-pieces, and decorated initials. Light toning to text, faint dampstaining to margins in a few places. Early inscription of a notary near foot of title page, interior otherwise clean. An attractive copy. $500. * Only edition. The essay on nobility has a separate title page. The final treatment of customary law for the jurisdiction of Vitry-en-Perthois, in Marne, Champagne-Ardenne. It is preceded by a series of coutumiers (1651-1676) edited by Charles de Salligny, another series (1567-1656) edited by Charles Du Moulin, and a series of anonymous editions ca. 1511-1555. The author, Estienne Durand was an avocat au Parlement, and a resident of Rethel-Mazarin in Champagne-Ardenne, north of Reims.
