Also known as the War of Jenkins' Ear (after the conflict's flashpoint), it related to Great Britain's exclusive right, granted by the Treaty of Utrecht at the end of the War of the Spanish Succession (1713), to ply the slave trade and sell other goods in Spain's American colonies. This war was eventually subsumed into the War of the Austrian Succession (1742-1748).
