A Concise Digest Of The Law, Usage and Custom Affecting The Commercial And Civil Intercourse Of The Subjects Of Great Britain And France. With Considerable Additions. Paris: J.E. Carriere [et al.], 1831. xix (i.e. xvii), 260 pp. Contemporary three-quarter calf over cloth, lettering piece and gilt fillets to spine. Some rubbing to extremities, dampstaining to boards, hinges starting. Early owner signature to head of title page, light browning to a few leaves. A nice copy. $125. * Third edition. An obviously useful work that went through at least six editions from 1829 to 1842. This third edition is updated to reflect changes brought on by the end of the Bourbon Restoration in 1830. In addition to the all the standard matters relating to commercial activity, it covers a vast array of miscellaneous topics, such as adoption, bigamy, burials, marriage and divorce, fireworks, physicians and vagrants. Its chief significance, of course, rests in the gradual rapprochement between England and France as reflected in their commercial interests.
