Contemporary vellum with somewhat later vellum rebacking and re-cornering, raised bands and lettering piece to spine, early hand-lettered title to foot of spine, endpapers renewed. Moderate rubbing to extremities, portions of vellum lacking from front board, a few cracks to vellum covering rear board, front joint starting at foot, some edgewear and wrinkling to preliminaries. Moderate toning to text, browning, minor worming and dampstaining to a few places. Early owner signature to title page, annotations and underlining to a few leaves, interior otherwise clean. Ex-library. Small inkstamp to title page, annotations to verso. $500. * Later edition. Highly regarded in his time, Menochio was a professor of law at the University of Padua. First published in 1559, this treatise addresses possession and real property. It is divided into two parts. The first, and largest, part discusses the treatment of these topics in Roman law. The second part is a collection of responsa. It went through several editions into the late-seventeenth century. All are fairly scarce, however.
