Contemporary quarter calf over marbled boards, gilt fillets and title to spine, speckled edges. Moderate rubbing to extremities with wear to fore-edges of boards, corners bumped, a few minor scuffs to boards, front joint starting at ends, rear joint cracked, minor worming to hinges, leaf Mm2 (pp. 545-546) detached and mildly edgeworn. Light toning to text, foxing in a few places, internally clean. $500. * Later edition. Zoes was a notable Dutch humanist jurist, later the rector of the University of Louvain. His commentaries on the Code, Digest and Institutes of Justinian and the Decretals of Gregory IX were highly regarded works that went through several editions. His commentary on the Institutes was first published in 1653. All editions of this work are scarce. OCLC locates 2 copies of our 1757 edition, neither in North America. This edition not in Dekkers.
