Copperplate portrait frontispiece (of Francis, Lord Guilford, Lord Keeper of the Great Seal, to whom the work is dedicated). Octavo (6-1/4" x 3-1/2"). Contemporary sheep, gilt spine with raised bands and later lettering piece and label at foot reading "Lon: 1684." Some rubbing to boards, moderate rubbing to extremities with some wear to joints and spine ends, corners bumped and somewhat worn, front board partially detached, some offsetting to margins of endleaves. Light toning to text. Early owner signature to head of title page, pen doodle to verso, "B" in small early hand to front free endpaper. An appealing copy. $400. * First edition. A work that combines elements of the Martindale-Hubbell directory and Burke's Peerage, this is a biographical dictionary of eminent lawyers who became members of the nobility, or achieved higher ranks as nobles, due to their legal careers.
