This pocket-sized procedural handbook from the Restoration era was a well-received work that was issued eight times between 1660 and 1688. Written mostly by Francis Bacon, the Orders, as Holdsworth notes, "to a large extent, fixed the practice of the court till the reforms [of the nineteenth century]. Throughout his life Bacon was a consistent advocate of the codification of the statute law, and the digesting of case law. This set of Orders was the one piece of codification he was able to effect." All editions of this title are scarce. Holdsworth, History of English Law V:252-253. English Short-Title Catalogue R30918.
