Written mostly by Francis Bacon, the Orders, as Holdsworth notes, "to a large extent, fixed the practice of the court till the reforms [of the nineteenth century]. Throughout his life Bacon was a consistent advocate of the codification of the statute law, and the digesting of case law. This set of Orders was the one piece of codification he was able to effect."
