Contemporary calf, gilt-edged raised bands, lettering piece (reading Supplement to Spottiswood) and tiny fragment of early shelf label (?) to spine. Light rubbing and some minor nicks and scuffs to spine, moderate rubbing to extremities, corners bumped, early armorial bookplate to front pastedown. Light toning to text, somewhat heavier in places, light foxing to a few leaves. A nice copy. $450. * Second edition. First published in 1734, this treatise, to cite the preface, aimed to "illustrate, in a methodical way, the rise and progress of Heritable rights" (iii). A well-esteemed work, it went through other issues and editions in 1739, 1761 and 1782.
