Some minor scuffs and scratches to boards, moderate rubbing to extremities with wear to head of spine, small piece of calf lacking below lettering piece, rear joint just starting at head, corners bumped and lightly worn, hinges cracked. Light toning to interior, somewhat heavier in places, faint dampstaining and worming to margins in a few places, inkstains to margins of a few leaves. It provoked a spasm of anti-Catholic hysteria in England and Scotland that led to the executions of at least 22 men and women between 1678 and 1681 and harsh laws against Catholics.
