(6-1/4" x 3-3/4"). Contemporary mottled calf, raised bands, lettering piece and gilt ornaments to spine, marbled endpapers, edges rouged. Light rubbing to boards, moderate rubbing to extremities with wear to spine ends and corners, front joint cracked. Title pages printed in red and black. Moderate toning to text, light foxing to a few leaves, light soiling, brief early shelf mark (?) and tiny inkstain to title page of Part I. $950. * First edition. This fictional work concerns a story shared by a young prisoner about a lovely widow who was not interested in having a conventional marriage. Later editions were published in 1751 and 1755.
