Holdsworth discusses this book in his chapter on eighteenth-century legal literature. He points out that the preface "contains an argument controverting some of the theories as to the ecclesiastical jurisdiction and as to other matters which had been put forward by Bishop Gibson in his Codex Juris Ecclesiastici Anglicani." This work is a companion volume to Mallory's Modern Entries in English (1734-1735). Bibliographically distinct, Quare Impedit is often catalogued as its third volume.
