[Autograph Document, Signed Twice, London, May 11 and 18, 1770]. 4-1/4" x 7-1/4" sheet with four small embossed duty stamps, light toning, somewhat heavier along margins, tipped-in to old 5" x 8" sheet at lower left corner, content in another hand to verso dated February 27-28, 1770. $1,750. * Blackstone wrote this document during his brief term as a Justice of the Court of King's Bench. It concerns a case between John Hewetson and John Giles giving bail to Joseph Burch of Tower Hill London, Cornfactor and Daniel Appleton of Savage Gardens, London, Cornfactor. It is acknowledged 11 May 1770 with a note in the left margin over the embossed duty stamps: "Each of the bail justified by consent at my chambers this 18th May 1770 - in ?902.0:0." It is signed twice by Blackstone; one of his signatures is struck through. The text on the verso concerns a case of debt between Giles Grendey and Richard Clifford.
