Jefferson's first important piece of political writing, the Summary View was intended for the delegates to the First Continental Congress (1774). It was debated by the First Continental Congress and later printed as a pamphlet by some of Jefferson's friends. Widely circulated, it established Jefferson as an important figure in the struggle againts Great Britain. The full-page illustration in Ford's edition is a reproducton of the title page of the original pamphlet, which was printed by Clementina Rind in Williamsburg in 1774.
