Contemporary three-quarter morocco over marbled boards, blind rules to morocco edges, raised bands, blind fillets, gilt spine title ("Discourses on Ethics and Jurisprudence"), author names and fillets to spine, marbled endpapers. Light rubbing to boards, moderate rubbing and light wear to extremities, light chipping to head of spine, front joint just starting at head, corners worn, hinges cracked. Light toning to interior, light foxing in a few places, ownership signature (of C.S. Davis) to head of first title page, ms notes in pencil to recto and verso of title page and last page of second title, penciled lines to margins of a few pages. $500. * An interesting group of early nineteenth-century titles concerning jurisprudence and legal philosophy. Mackintosh's Discourse was the first in a well-reviewed series of lectures delivered at Lincoln's Inn on law and morals in various aspects of law, including public, private and international law. The addresses by Story serve as excellent outlines of his educational and political beliefs. Stewart's Dissertation explores issues of ethical and political philosophy and their development in a series of "Historical and Critical Sketches" (p. 31). Mackintosh: Cohen,
