London: Printed for J. Roberts, 1738. vi, 27, [1] pp. Main text in parallel columns. Quarto (8-1/2" x 7"). Stab-stitched pamphlet bound into recent period-style calf by Philip Dusel, gilt rules to boards, raised bands and lettering piece to spine, blind tooling to board edges. Light toning to interior, light, often negligible, foxing, mostly to margins. A handsome copy. $4,500. * First London edition. Two attacks on the legal arguments of Andrew Hamilton who successfully defended Zenger in 1735 from a charge of seditious libel. The first, signed on page 16 as "Anglo-Americanus, is attributed to Jonathan Blenman, the attorney general of Barbados, where it was first printed in the Barbados Gazette in 1737. The second anonymous attack, also printed in the Barbados Gazette, is signed on page 27 as "Indus-Britannicus." The original pamphlet edition of these two articles was published in Philadelphia in 1737, as, Remarks on Zenger's Tryal: Taken Out of the Barbados Gazette's. The great Americana collector Thomas Streeter had a copy of our edition. (He did not have a copy of the Philadelphia edition.).
