Letter accompanied by typed transcription. $950. * Holmes's letter dates from the period when he was practicing law in Boston and active as a legal scholar. King, a Harvard graduate, was an editor and publisher who specialized in guidebooks. In this letter Holmes thanks King for allowing him to correct the proof for an un-named publication, possibly the second edition of King's Harvard and Its Surroundings (1880), noting "Some of the corrections which I have made I can swear to as what I said - the rest as what I meant to say."
