Contemporary calf, blind rules to boards, raised bands, blind fillets and lettering piece to spine, blind tooling to board edges, marbled edges. Light rubbing and scuffing to boards, somewhat heavier to rear board, moderate rubbing to extremities, chip to head of spine, corners bumped and somewhat worn, smaller chip to foot of rear joint, front hinge just starting at head, rear hinge cracked (between pp. 494 and 495), light foxing to endleaves. Light toning to interior, occasional light foxing. A nice copy of a scarce edition. $350. * First edition. Watson was a highly regarded politician and judge. His treatise on sheriffs, which had a second edition in 1848, was a standard treatise in the mid-nineteenth century. An American reprint was published in Philadelphia in 1835 in Littel's Law Library series. OCLC locates 11 copies of the first edition in North American law libraries.
