Light toning, horizontal fold line. $850. * This note was probably addressed to Robert M. Benjamin [1896-1966], Holmes's clerk from 1922 to 1923. It reads: "My Dear Benjamin, You are the most faithful of friends. Another custom (?) that even I had forgotten - I thank you both and send you both my love. Affectionately yours, O.W. Holmes." In 1953 Benjamin was part of the legal team that represented another former Holmes clerk, Alger Hiss.
