"Reliable and Responsible Practising Lawyers" Merchants' Protective Union. [Solicitation for Membership]. New York, 1868. 10-3/4" x 8-1/4" bifolium, text to rectos and versos of both leaves. Light toning, vertical and horizontal fold lines, a few minor stains, a few short tears along folds, "August 15th" to date-line at head of text in contemporary hand. $350. * The Merchants' Protective Union was a legal-services agency "for the Continent from New York to San Francisco." Subscribers were provided with a directory of "reliable and responsible lawyers, in every county in the United States" who would assist in the "recovery of claims, and the transaction of all other business requiring the services of an attorney or counsel at any point in America or Europe." The Union also provided lists of credit ratings and other types of information useful to businessmen.
