Contemporary limp paneled red cloth, gilt title and blind-stamped publisher's name to front, marbled edges and endpapers. Light rubbing and soiling to exterior, front hinge starting at ends. Moderate toning to interior, which is otherwise fresh. An appealing copy. $350. * First edition. A scarce work with chapters on the constitutional history of the army, prize and booty, criminal liabilities, rank and pay, courts martial and other pertinent military topics. Prendergast was a barrister of Lincoln's Inn. A second edition appeared in 1855; both editions are scarce.
