Most of the annotations are to Edward Fitzgerald's translation of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, a longtime favorite of Darrow and the subject of his 1899 work A Persian Pearl. Brief and scholarly in nature, they reflect a growing interest in a work extremely meaningful to the Darrow family. The ownership signature "Jessie Darrow" may also refer to Jessie Ohl Darrow, Clarence Darrow's first wife, though it is more likely that of the granddaughter.
