Contemporary calf, gilt fillets to boards, rebacked in morocco with gilt-edged raised bands, gilt title and author and gilt decorations to compartments, gilt tooling to board edges, edges speckled green, marbled endpapers, gilt inside dentelles. Light rubbing and a few small scuffs to boards, moderate rubbing to extremities, corners bumped and somewhat worn, faint offsetting to endpapers, recent pencil annotations to endleaves and a few places in text. Light toning to interior, occasional light foxing, faint offsetting to plates, a few of which have very small folds or tears to edges not affecting images, partial crack to text block between items, all leaves secure, added blank between items with early manuscript copy of "On the Death of Mr. Howard." Inscriptions "With Mr. Howard's best respects" to front endleaf of Prisons and "Mr. Howard requests Mr. Townsend, will be kind enough to accept this book from him, as a very sincere tho' small acknowledgment of his Friendship and Regard" to blank preceding Lazarettos.
