Light soiling to boards, which are slightly bowed, faint dampstain to rear board, spine and joints lightly varnished, small tear to spine above lettering piece, joints starting, front hinge just starting at head, later ownership signature (of Frederick J. Hughes) to front free endpaper. Moderate toning to interior, light browning and soiling to several leaves (including title pages and frontispiece), faint dampstaining in a few places, trimming to fore-edge of Bishops frontispiece and a few tears mended on verso and reinforced with cellotape, minor loss to image, light creasing to upper corners of last few leaves of Tryals. $250. * Bishops: first edition; Tryals: one of three 1685 issues. The 1688 Declaration of Indulgence, reissued by James II, suspended the penal laws enacted against Catholics and ordered the Anglican clergy to read it to their congregations.
