Mary Reilly, alias Kilkenny, alias Kenny, sued Brady for the maintenance of her two illegitimate children, whom she claimed were his. Brady was defended by Richard Lalor Sheil, a notable Irish lawyer, orator and politician. Our account of the trial includes Sheil's impassioned (and successful) speeches for the defense.
