Miami Beach, FL, 1966. 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" pictorial envelope, single 5-cent red, white and blue "The United States Bill of Rights 175th Anniversary" stamp to upper right corner, cancelled in Miami Beach, FL on July 1, 1966 with "First Day of Issue" ink stamp, bold autograph signature of John Paul Stevens in blue ink below. Light toning, a few negligible smudges, else fine. $75. * First day covers are postage stamps, typically on a postcard or envelope, cancelled with the city and date of the stamp's first issue. The Bill of Rights stamp was issued with several different styles of first day cover, with the present example designed to coincide with the National Education Association's 1966 convention. Ours is signed by U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, an advocate of desegregation, civil liberties, student rights and other causes pertinent to education.
