This trial followed the collapse of the City of Glasgow Bank, one of the greatest commercial scandals in Scotland's history. The directors were all convicted of fraud-related offenses and given sentences of eight to eighteen months. The two second editions, both published in 1879, have identical editorial content. The other issue does not have advertisements; its pagination is 272 pp. (The Edinburgh Publishing Company also published another illustrated report of this trial by Charles Tennant Couper.)
