Light rubbing to boards, somewhat heavier rubbing to extremities, tiny tear to head of spine, moderate rubbing to interior. [With] [Laid-in Folder Containing an Undated Autograph Letter, Signed, a Clipped Signature, Affixed to Folder, and Steel-Plate Portrait of Parsons]. Light soiling and edgewear, a few minor tears along fold lines of letter. Together 4 items. $150. * Only edition. One of the great New England jurists of the nineteenth century, Parsons [1750-1813] played a major role in the Americanization of the common law. The letter is addressed James Deshon. It concerns a legal case involving cargo lost at sea. According to its caption, the portrait, dated 1818, was removed from an issue of The Analectic Magazine.
