This was originally published in 1638 as The Complete Justice: A Compendium of the Particulars Incident to Justices of the Peace. It was well-received and went through several editions. It was popular in part due to its brief summaries and alphabetical arrangement. It also incorporated data from the treatises of Lambarde, Crompton, Dalton and other authorities. It was thus a handy guide that offered good value to the owner. It is fascinating to us because its subject headings, such as those relating to family law and witchcraft, open an interesting window on English society in the early modern era. OCLC locates 3 copies of this edition in North American law libraries (Harvard, University of Minnesota, San Francisco). English Short-Title Catalogue R32507.
