Contemporary three-quarter sheep over marbled boards, gilt fillets and title to spine. Moderate rubbing, a few scuffs and stains and faint dampstaining to boards, which are slightly bowed, somewhat heavier rubbing to extremities, a few small wormholes to spine, a few chips to joints, chipping to foot of spine, corners bumped and worn. Light toning, faint dampstain to upper corner of text block, small holes (pinholes?) to most leaves, legibility not affected, a few partial cracks to text block, all leaves secure. Text in ink and pencil in single neat hand to first 188 pp. $650. * This ledger records court appearances in Grafton County, New Hampshire between 1839 and 1877. Most appear to take place in the Court of Common Pleas and deal with financial matters such as debt, breach of contract and small claims. Several cases deal with injuries from poorly maintained highways, including a case where a man sued after his wife was injured and his sleigh damaged. Other cases include divorces, assault, slander and bastardy. Provides an interesting look at court proceedings in rural nineteenth-century New Hampshire.
