Being the Case Also of the Dissenting Ministers, In Regard to the Act of Oxford. In a Second and Third Sheet, Together with the First Revised, Strengthened, And Reprinted. [iv], 32 pp. Quarto (8" x 6-1/4"). Stab-stitched pamphlet, edges untrimmed, most signatures unopened. Light toning, light soiling to exterior, light foxing to a few leaves, small tear to upper corner of title page not affecting text. $450. * Only edition. An expanded version of An Account of the New Sheriffs (1680), this pamphlet discusses the qualifications for the office of sheriff in light of the Corporation Act of 1661 and the Test Act of 1673. Designed to exclude Catholics, the acts forced public officeholders to receive communion in the Church of England, swear oaths of supremacy and allegiance and subscribe to a declaration against transubstantiation. Our pamphlet is critical of the acts, describing them as "unlawful," and notes that the oaths will exclude many citizens "of known Piety, Loyalty, and Ability." English Short-Title Catalogue R18154.
