Later three-quarter sheep over marbled boards, raised bands, blind fillets and gilt ornaments and title to spine, edges rouged, endpapers renewed. Light rubbing to boards, moderate rubbing to extremities, front joint starting at head, corners lightly bumped and worn. Light toning to interior, more moderate in places, occasional light foxing, light soiling in a few places, ownership signature (P. Neill) to head of title page. $400. * First edition. Nicholson, Lord Bishop of Carlisle, was a strong advocate of the union of England and Scotland. Published two years before the Act of Union, his Leges Marchiarum addresses numerous issues regarding the union of these two states. A second edition was published in 1747.
