1729 Compilation of Laws Concerning the Taxation of Salt [Great Britain]. [Taxation]. Salt taxes were both complex and steep, up to several times the market value of the good itself, and often led to smuggling, corruption and political unrest both in Britain and its colonies. The ESTC records two compilations dated 1729; ours includes A Continuation of the Statutes, Relating to the Duties on Salt, From 1729, to 1738. OCLC locates 2 copies in North America (Harvard Law School, University of Wisconsin). Goldsmiths'-Kress Library of Economic Literature N27294. English Short-Title Catalogue (ESTC) N27294.
