Recent period-style paper-covered boards, contrasting spine with printed paper title label, untrimmed edges, endpapers renewed. Moderate toning to interior, presentation inscription (from Ned. Lowry Barnwell) to front endleaf, early library stamps to title page and foot of p. 188, repairs to fore-edges of final two leaves. A handsome copy. $250. * Only edition. In 1813 Hargrave's library, which included 499 manuscripts, most of them dealing with law, was purchased for ?8,000 in 1813 by the House of Commons and deposited in the British Museum. An important legal author and editor, Hargrave was one of the lawyers who represented James Somersett in the landmark case that determined the rights of enslaved people in England.
