A Lethal Barroom Brawl in Pennsylvania [Manuscript]. [Pennsylvania]. [Witness Testimony in Commonwealth v. Hartman et al.]. Berks County, Pennsylvania, August 20, 1874. ff. 12-1/2" x 7-3/4" ruled sheets held together with brass tabs at top-edge, text in single neat hand to rectos. This document records testimony given during the August 1874 trial by 17 witnesses for the prosecution and 22 for the defense, including medical evidence and eyewitness accounts. The testimony is notably detailed, with key phrases underlined, and may have been prepared as part of an official record of the case. Hartman, the principal defendant, is probably Valentine R. Hartman [1839-1907].
