Light toning, light wear to corners of text block, light soiling to exterior, light foxing to a few leaves and title page, which has a small library stamp. $200. * Only edition. Butler, an attorney who practiced in New York City and Albany, was United States Attorney-General under President Jackson. A leading member of the bar, he was held in high regard by James Kent. A scholarly man, he was interested in legal pedagogy and the "scientific" study of law. He was invited to organize a law department for the University of the City of New York, which is now New York University.
