Contemporary speckled calf, gilt monogram ("P") to center of boards, gilt-edged raised bands, gilt volume numbers and lettering pieces to spines, tiny later shelf label to head of Vol. I spine, blind tooling to board edges, edges of text block rouged. Light rubbing and a few shallow scratches to boards, moderate rubbing to extremities, joints cracked, chipping to spine ends, head of Vol. II spine mended, corners bumped and worn, hinges starting, later armorial bookplates (of William Arthur, Sixth Duke of Portland) to front pastedowns, light foxing and faint offsetting to preliminaries. Moderate toning to interior, occasional light foxing, light soiling in a few places, later penciled annotations to heads of title pages. $300. * Only edition.
