Contemporary three-quarter calf over marbled boards, lettering piece and blind fillets and ornaments to spine. Light rubbing to joints, heavier rubbing to boards with wear to corners, chip to edge of lettering piece, gilding rubbed from letters, minor worming to foot of spine and rear hinge, front hinge starting, front free endpaper lacking, later bookseller stamp and owner annotations and markings to front pastedown. Moderate toning and faint spotting to interior, faint dampstaining to margins in a few places, fold lines to corners of a few leaves, light soiling, some edgewear and early owner signature to title page. $1,500. * First edition. Text in Latin, the official language of Hungarian law and government until 1836. This legal dictionary was a standard reference work in the Kingdom of Hungary and it went through three more editions in 1810, 1816 and 1832. Several entries are notably detailed and scholarly. Despite its importance, few copies of any edition are found outside of Eastern Europe. OCLC locates 2 copies of the 1798 edition in North America (Columbia Law School, Library of Congress).
