Folding table of consanguinity and affinity lacking from 7th volume (Acts Done and Past in the Third Session of the Second Triennall Parliament..., 1649). Folio (10-1/2" x 6-1/2"). Contemporary speckled calf, blind rules to boards, raised bands and blind fillets to spine, lettering piece lacking, gilt tooling to board edges. Light rubbing and a few minor nicks, scratches and stains to boards, front board starting at head but secure, chipping to head of spine, moderate rubbing to joints, spine ends and corners, which are bumped, pastedowns loose and lightly soiled, upper outside corner of rear pastedown lacking, later armorial bookplate (of John Adrian Louis Hope, 7th Earl of Hopetoun) to inside of front board, faint offsetting to endleaves. Moderate toning to interior, light soiling, faint staining and tiny spark burns in a few places, corners of several leaves folded and untrimmed, clean tear to gutter of leaf C4 (pp. 21-22) of third work affecting text without loss to legibility, ink staining to title page of sixth work, mended tears to leaves Q1-2 of seventh work with loss to text, early ink marks (and one brief annotation) to a few leaves, recent pencil annotations to title pages. $1,200. * These volumes of Scottish acts cover the tumultuous reign of Charles I and the beginning of the reign of Charles II, touching on important topics such as military affairs, religious practice and freedom (or lack thereof), and the complex relationship between Scotland and England. Hope [1860-1908] was an English statesman who served as the first governor-general of Australia (1901-1902). Before that, he was Governor of Victoria (1889-1895). English Short-Title Cat.
