(Dated 29th October 1818.) [London]: Ordered, By the House of Commons, To be Printed, 16 March 1819. 114 pp. Folding ground plan of the Marshalsea Prison. Folio (13-3/4" x 8-1/2"). Original printed wrappers, untrimmed edges. A few light marks and stains, fold to lower outside corner of rear wrapper, spine heavily abraded, wrappers and text secure. Moderate toning to interior, light foxing to a few leaves. A good copy in its original state. $350. * The Fleet, Westminster and Marshalsea prisons were notorious as debtors' prisons, though they housed a variety of offenders. (Famously, Charles Dickens's father was sent to the Marshalsea Prison as a result of debt.) The present report was made in the course of an assessment of the nation's bankruptcy laws. It includes such details as the number and type of prisoners and the allowances of food, money and clothing allotted to them, along with additional commentary. Pre-1836 Parliamentary papers are scarce today. They were not available to the public, so they were produced in small numbers.
