Industrial Conspiracies: Lecture Delivered in Heilig Theatre, 1912.

"Men will be Brothers the World Over" Darrow, Clarence [1857-1938]. Industrial Conspiracies. Lecture Delivered in Heilig Theater, Portland, Oregon, September 10, 1912. Portland, OR: Published by Otto Newman and Franklin L. Rusmisel, 1912. 32 pp. Stapled pamphlet in red printed wrappers. Vertical fold line, occasional very light soiling, small tears around staples to gutter of pp. 17-22 not affecting text, owner name (N. Sinnott) in blue pencil to foot of last page. $85. * Delivered in the aftermath of Darrow's defense of the McNamara brothers, which resulted in a plea deal for the brothers and an acquittal on bribery charges for Darrow, this speech addresses the history of conspiracy laws and their application against workers and labor unions in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. He concludes that though "the evolution will not all be peaceful," "the earth is moving, the universe is working, all the laws of creation are working toward justice, toward a better humanity, toward a higher ideal, toward a time when men will be brothers the world over." The "N. Sinnott" who owned this copy was likely Nicholas J. Sinnott [1870-1929], an Oregon lawyer who served in the House of Representatives from 1913-1928. He was appointed to the federal Court of Claims by President Coolidge in 1928 and served there until his death. OCLC locates 2 copies of this title in law libraries (Library of Congress, University of Minnesota). Hunsberger, Clarence Darrow: A Bibliography 84.
