"In 1923 a group of lawyers, judges, and legal educators founded the American Law Institute (ALI) in order to 'promote the clarification and simplification of the law and its better adaptation to social needs, to secure the better administration of justice, and to carry on scholarly and scientific work.' (...) The Restatement of Contracts, published in 1932, was nine years in the drafting. (...) [It represents] a twentieth-century postscript to the great treatise- writing tradition of the preceding century.": Woxland & Ogden, Landmarks in American Legal Publishing, 27-28.
