[xvi], 791 [i.e. 761], [14]; [xvi], 452 [i.e. 434], [12] pp. With 2 additional engraved pictorial copperplate title pages. Octavo (6-1/4" x 3-1/4"; 16 x 8.25 cm). Contemporary laced vellum, later repair to spine incorporating portions of existing spine, edges of text block rouged. Light soiling and a few small stains, remnants of early hand-lettered title to head of spine, early annotation and (illegible) owner signature dated 1680 to front pastedown. Moderate toning to interior, somewhat heavier in places in second volume, light foxing and negligible faint dampstaining to a few leaves, small ink library stamp of the Oettingen-Wallerstein Library to half-title and title page of first volume, tear to margin of leaf R6 (pp. 187-188) of first volume without loss to text, small hole to leaf U8 (pp. 319-320) of second part with very minor loss to text, legibility not affected. A very good copy of a rare complete set. $750. * Later edition. First published in 1651, Metamorphosis Telae Judiciariae is an extensive collection of accounts of amusing and unusual court cases, several of which are accompanied by poems or songs. The second volume contains an additional 150 cases. The final edition appeared in 1712. This copy once belonged to the Oettingen-Wallerstein Library (Oettingen-Wallersteinsche Bibliothek), a notably fine collection established by the princes of Oettingen-Wallerstein that incorporated the contents of five monastery libraries. It was later acquired by the University of Augsburg. OCLC locates 3 complete copies of the 1655-1658 edition in North Ameri.
