London: Printed by Rowroth & Co. Limited, 1885. 72 pp. Octavo (8-1/2" x 5-1/2"). Pamphlet in printed wrappers (rear wrapper lacking) bound in contemporary cloth with gilt title to spine. Light rubbing, spine ends and corners lightly bumped, armorial bookplate (of Cecil Foljambe, 1st Earl of Liverpool) and later owner signature dated 1947 to front pastedown. Light toning to interior, slight vertical fold line, faint offsetting to front wrapper, presentation inscription "C. Savile Foljambe Esq M.P. from the writer" to head of front wrapper, brief annotations and corrections in the same hand to pp. 9 and 13. Rare. $450. * Only edition. A transcription of a seventeenth-century justice of the peace notebook kept by Bostock Fuller of Tandridge Court and held by the Bodleian Library with an introduction by the author. Leveson-Gower, a Liberal MP from a prominent British family, presented this copy to Cecil Foljambe [1846-1907], a fellow politician who would serve as a member of the Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts in 1901.
