Moderate rubbing to boards, heavier rubbing to spine and extremities, boards beginning to separate but secure. Owner signature of Thompson Campbell to front pastedown and title page, owner signature (D.D. Brunk) to front with his small bookplate to front pastedown, identifying him as an attorney in Pacheco, Contra Costa County, California, another early owner signature (C.E. Wellmore) to front free endpaper. Light toning to interior, light foxing in places, light soiling to a few leaves. $250. * Third Voorhies edition. Thompson Campbell (1811-1868), was a lawyer, businessman, U.S. Congressman (1851-1853), and old friend of Abraham Lincoln from their days in Springfield, Illinois. From 1863-1864 he was a member of the California legislature. This volume contains the entire procedural code, by David Dudley Field, Arphaxad Loomis and David Graham, Jr., as adopted by the legislature in 1848 and amended to 1853. Voorhies published the first annotated edition of the Procedure Code in 1849. Popularly known as "Voorhies' Code," it was a standard work for decades. Its final edition, the tenth, was published in 1873. Babbitt, Hand-List of Legislative Sessions and Session Laws 358-359 (citing other editions). This edition not in Cohen.
